Nick Kyrgios Throws Tantrum at Shanghai Rolex Masters... Again

  • Kyrgios ousted in Shanghai Masters

Previous year he was fined $10,000 and forfeited his first-round loser's cheque following a decision to walk off after losing the first set against Steve Johnson.

Roger Federer warned temperamental Australian Nick Kyrgios on Tuesday (Oct 9) that he would never fulfil his potential without the work ethic to go with his talent.

Raonic and Kyrgios were both ousted in three sets by Mackenzie McDonald and fellow American qualifier Bradley Klahn respectively, but 10th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas was able to progress courtesy of a 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-4 success over Gael Monfils.

The 23-year-old Kyrgios made another contentious exit from the Shanghai Masters on Monday after a running argument with the chair umpire who suggested his efforts were "borderline".

Federer has chosen not to partake in the Shanghai Masters this year.

Doubles great Woodbridge says Kyrgios, who this week lost the top Australian ranking to Alex de Minaur, gets singled out.

Later Kyrgios said to Dumusois: "You know I literally could just go to the ATP office after this and say I felt put down from your comment and you'd be in trouble, right? You have no right to tell me that it's poor".

Shanghai is not the only scene of a Kyrgios controversy.

Federer added: "He can win bigger tournaments and do all these things".

Swedish umpire Mohamed Lahyani was reprimanded by U.S. Open organisers for going "beyond protocol" when he climbed down from his chair to give Nick Kyrgios a mid-match pep talk during his second round match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

During prolonged exchanges between the pair, Kyrgios was heard saying "I don't care" and then told the umpire: "You have no right to tell me it's poor".

"I think with Nick when he's fresh he plays great and it's about managing schedules as much as anything, so that he plays no more than three weeks in row and then he gets away from it", Woodbridge said at the launch for next year's Australian Open. Scheduling is huge for him.

"There's a way of playing tennis on a tennis court".

"I think we're two very different characters", said Kyrgios following his defeat to the Swiss at the US Open.
