His father, Bob Tway, was an eight-time victor on the PGA Tour who captured the 1986 PGA Championship by sinking a bunker shot on the last hole to defeat Greg Norman.

The son of eight-time PGA Tour victor Bob Tway, the 30-year-old former Oklahoma State player beat Ryan Moore on the par-4 10th after Brandt Snedeker dropped out on their first extra trip down the par-5 18th. "I wasn't really in it on the front nine".

His retreat let the pack back into contention in what turned into a wild finish in conditions that started out extremely windy before abating by the final few holes. I was kind of right there, but kind of hanging around.

Snedeker, the overnight leader, dropped out of the play-off on the first hole after Tway and Moore made birdies at the 18th and he could only manage par.

"I was just trying to put the ball in the fairway, which was very hard", Tway said.

"I think I birdied my last five holes - that always helps".

Brandt Snedeker held a five shot lead with 11 holes to play but suffered a back-nine collapse which opened the door for Tway and Moore. "Didn't make any putts".

The title was decided at the 10th, Tway carding a three on the par-4 for the win.

Snedeker said he'd remember the event as one he "gave away". "I had full control".

"I didn't even expect to be in this position", Moore said.

Needing to birdie the par-5 18th to win, Snedeker instead found a fairway bunker off the tee, pushed his second shot into the rough and couldn't get closer than 48 feet with his approach.

"Obviously, we all kind of knew the wind was going to be insane warming up this morning", List said. Making three birdies is pretty good.

Tway then carded his third birdie in a row to secure his maiden PGA Tour victory.
