  • Fyre Fest founder Billy Mc Farland sentenced to six years in prison

The 2017 Fyre Festival in the Bahamas was the ultimate example of everything that could go wrong with a music event actually going much, much worse - and now Billy McFarland, its promoter, has been sentenced to six years in prison.

The Fyre Festival founder could have served up to 20 years for convictions on three counts of wire fraud, one count of bank fraud, and one count of lying to investigators.

McFarland was found guilty of multiple counts of fraud that included the Fyre Festival debacle in which he scammed his investors out of $26 million, according to a Vice News report.

Finally someone is going to pay for the abysmal sandwiches and electricity-less tent sham known as Fyre Festival, and it isn't Ja Rule. "I've lived every day with the weight of knowing that I literally destroyed the lives of my friends and family".

The Fyre Festival, which was supposed to be a posh event in the Bahamas in April and May of 2016.

The incident has been reported to the aviation regulator and Air India says it is "cooperating with the investigation". Airport sources said one of the three VHF antennae on the aircraft was believed to have been damaged in the incident.

Though McFarland's legal team tried to piece together a mental health defense, prosecutors called him "the consummate con artist" during sentencing. She added that a diagnosis of bipolar does not excuse his behaviour. Then, weeks later, he pleaded guilty to charges in a ticket selling scam.

Effect of Sound Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland is facing a multimillion-dollar class action lawsuit from ticket-holders.

Seems like McFarland hasn't seen the last of the court room, yet.

It's not the end of McFarland's legal woes: there are a number of class action lawsuits against himself and Fyre Media that are now waiting to be heard.
