Apple has about 24 original shows in production and development.

Apple has been announcing press releases for some time about original TV series and films that it's developing, but for each major announcement, we still had no idea how Apple meant to release this content. And after spending all that money, how much are they going to charge for users to watch it? It'll reside alongside paid subscription channels from legacy media companies within the pre-installed "TV" application on devices like the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

In the future, owning an Apple device may come with a new perk: free access to Cupertino's original TV shows.

As the content wars rage on and various other entities attempt to remain competitive against the all-encompassing Netflix, everyone's had their eye on Apple. The app is now available on Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad.

If the content will only be accessible through the "TV" app on Apple devices, that would explain why the tech company isn't too keen to charge a separate fee for access to the content.

So yes, the plan right now it seems is for Apple's original TV shows and films to be available to watch for free to anyone who owns an appropriate Apple device-although given Apple's track record, you can probably bet that you'll need an "upgraded" version of said devices for this service to work properly.

While many streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have a back catalog of third-party content, it's the original content the streaming services produce that is seen as the reason a customer chooses one service over the other.

"Apple has made clear, say producers and agents, that it wants high-quality shows with stars and broad appeal, but it doesn't want gratuitous sex, profanity, or violence", the Journal reported.

The revamped app may be launched by Apple early next year, the report said, adding that an Apple spokesman, however, declined to comment on the plans.

In the meantime, music encyclopedia service Genius today announced a deal with Apple that will allow Apple Music subscribers to play full songs from Genius' song page.
