West was at the White House to talk to Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, about prison reform, gang violence and manufacturing.

Actor Ike Barinholtz criticized the timing of the lunch, writing: "It's good to know that while Florida is being pummeled by a storm and the dow is s-tting the bed and a United States "ally" beheaded a journalist that our president is having the world's s--dest lunch with Kid Rock and Kanye West".

Rapper Kanye West is seated while meeting with President Donald Trump and others in the Oval Office of the White House, Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, in Washington.

West also says that many people believe that if someone's black, then that person has to be a Democrat. Over the past two years, Mr. West has faced regular public criticism from other celebrities over his stance.

At a press conference before the pair broke for a private lunch, West praised Trump at length, touching on his handling of North Korea's increasing nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities, his thoughts on gun control, his "love" for Hillary Clinton, and how "boring" school is.

Kanye West met with President Donald Trump on October 11 at the Oval Office, giving an unprepared 10-minute monologue in front of reporters and drawing praise from Trump for his honesty.

On "male energy": "My dad and my mom separated so there was not a lot of male energy in my home and also I'm married to a family where, you know, there's not a lot of male energy".

The meeting had been billed by the White House as one centered on urban revitalization, workforce training, African-American unemployment, potential future clemencies and crime in Chicago.

Mr. West weighed in on race relations, saying his 2005 statement in the wake of Hurricane Katrina-"George Bush doesn't care about black people"-was the result of a "victimized mentality".

Taking questions from reporters, the rapper also voiced concern about stop-and-frisk policing. But he said "this hat, it gives me power".

Trump endorses West for president: Seemingly pleased with the musician's comments, Trump declared, "He can speak for me any time he wants".

But West, who's from Chicago, told Trump that this strategy is detrimental.

It was the first of several off-color remarks Kanye would drop in the Oval Office, including this line: "He might not have expected to have a insane motherfucker like Kanye West run up and support".

As recently as August, Trump seemed to be digging himself a large hole among African Americans when he got into a Twitter war with basketball great and black icon LeBron James.

At one point during his ten minutes of remarks, West said, "Time is a myth". "All we have is today".
