Woman taken by crocodile in Northern Territory

DARWIN, AUSTRALIA-A wildlife ranger was killed by a crocodile Friday in Australia's Northern Territory while gathering mussels with her family in a water hole, police said.

The Aboriginal ranger was snatched by the crocodile at the East Arnhem outstation of Gan Gan about 206km southwest of Yirrkala at about 10am on Friday.

Initial reports suggested the woman was a ranger but police are still trying to confirm that and if she was working at the time.

Yirrkala is 18km south east of Nhulunbuy.

The woman was attacked while on the job about 10 this morning near the community of Gangan, about 206km south west of Yirrkala.
