  • British physicist Professor Stephen Hawking speaks during the Opening Ceremony for the 2012 Paralympics in London Wednesday Aug. 29 2012. Stephen Hawking has spoken from beyond the grave to warn that

In his 1988 book, A Brief History of Time, legendary astrophysicist Stephen Hawking had stated that God's existence might be possible as the creator stating that if we can discover a complete theory of the universe, we might be able to know the mind of God.

The physicist suggested the opportunity for wealthy people to edit and choose their children's DNA in the future will create superhumans with qualities such as improved intelligence, according to the Sunday Times.

Although Hawking was known for his work on cosmology and black holes, his final book is a "reflection of his humanity" and his hopes that risky new technologies could not just destroy, but also unite and revolutionise human life.

Prof Hawking's words of advice and defiance, echoing from an Imax screen at London's Science Museum, brought tears to the eyes of his daughter Lucy.

"We are also in danger of becoming culturally isolated and insular", he wrote.

Answering the final question just months before his death, he said he had come to the "profound realisation" that there was no afterlife or supreme being.

The eminent cosmologist, who had motor neurone disease and died in March, also had his final public thoughts broadcast at the event ending with an emotional address to younger generations.

Along with his warnings, he said Donald Trump's U.S. presidency and Britain's vote to leave the European Union were part of "a global revolt against experts", adding: "That includes scientists".

"It matters that you don't give up".

How do we shape the future? "While primitive forms of artificial intelligence developed so far have proved very useful, I fear the consequences of creating something that can match or surpass humans". "I feel sometimes like he's still here because we talk about him and we hear his voice and we see images of him, and then we have the reminder that he's left us". In June, his ashes were buried in Westminster Abbey, between the graves of Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton.

"He was deeply anxious that at a time when the challenges that present themselves are global - and need us to come together and work together - that we were becoming increasingly local in our thinking", Lucy Hawking said.

"He never liked to be alone, he always wanted to be at the centre of everything", she said.

His final prediction is set to be released in a new book of his essays, named Brief Answers to Big Questions.
