  • 6 kids dead in adenovirus outbreak at N.J. hospital

The outbreak occurred in recent days at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, according to a statement from the New Jersey Department of Health. Of these 18 cases, there have unfortunately been six deaths of pediatric residents, according to WABC.

A viral outbreak has left six children dead and 12 other sick at a New Jersey rehabilitation facility, health officials say.

Adenoviruses are part of a group of viruses that can infect the membranes or tissue lining of the respiratory tract, eyes, intestines, urinary tract and nervous system, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

They are the cause of several infections including the common cold, respiratory tract infections, pink eye, diarrhea, bronchiolitis and pneumonia.

"Adenoviruses are a family of viruses that often cause mild illness, particularly in young children", Department of Health director of communications Donna Leusner told CBS 2.

Samsung's updated mixed-reality headset goes on sale October 22nd
Essentially, it aims to hide the noticeable space by interpolating between pixels or antialiasing slightly in front of the screen. However, Samsung is touting an improved display technology that purportedly reduces pattern noise for a "perceived PPI of 1,233".

The department had reportedly been notified by the 227-bed facility of cases of respiratory illness on October 9.

The outbreak investigation is ongoing.

The statement said the health department sent a team to the facility to inspect on Sunday, and again on Tuesday, and that they found minor handwashing deficiencies.

Officials in New Jersey say the outbreak there is unusually severe because the children at the Wanaque Center have "severely compromised immune systems".

This is a breaking news story.
