HTC first announced the Exodus phone in May, which features a built-in digital wallet that will enable users to store and trade cryptocurrencies - an alternative to the special memory sticks where investors have traditionally put their digital money.

"Exodus" may be a fair description of HTC's customer base in recent years - once the reviewers' darling, it has fallen a long way.

HTC launched a new blockchain-powered smartphone, "EXODUS 1", Tuesday morning. It is also called as "Secure Enclave" that is isolated from the smartphone and Android interface running on the phone.

Getting past all the regular jargon, HTC has built a social key recovery system for blockchain wallets.

The EXODUS 1 is wholly dedicated to blockchain encryption-all the way to how consumers initially order the device: The smartphone can only be purchased using Bitcoin or Ethereum. HTC says it won't hold your keys in a central location at any point, but we're yet to see any demos of how this all works. HTC has revealed the specs to its Exodus 1 phone and has made it available for pre-order. There's a 6-inch HD+ display on the front with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 8MP dual selfie cameras. Upon setting up a wallet on the phone, it is possible to send several trusted individuals part of a secret key. This phone also functions as a hardware wallet for cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin or Ethereum.

The phone is available for pre-order in 34 countries including the U.S., the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and a number of European nations, with the notable exception of China, where cryptocurrency trading and exchanges are effectively banned.

Users will get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone will be shipping in the month of December and is also IP68 certified for Dust and Water resistance.

The Exodus runs on Android Oreo and backed up by a 3,500mAh battery.

"Selling it in crypto only and being the first to do so means we are bringing this directly to the core audience and those who will want this device - the blockchain community."
