Dawn was launched back in 2007 with a goal of visiting the two largest objects within the main asteroid belt of the solar system: Vesta and Ceres.

The 11-year mission to investigate "time capsules from the solar system's earliest chapter" in the asteroid belt concluded after Dawn finally ran out of hydrazine fuel, which meant it could no longer turn to face Earth, to communicate, or the sun, to recharge.

At the point when the spacecraft missed scheduled communications with NASA's Deep Space Network on Wednesday and Thursday, the space agency formally proclaimed it dead.

Dawn is referred as the only rocket to orbit an astronomical body in the fundamental space rock belt among Mars and Jupiter in 2011 when it started orbiting the space rock Vesta. Because Ceres has conditions of interest to scientists who study chemistry that leads to the development of life, Nasa follows strict planetary protection protocols for the disposal of the Dawn spacecraft, Nasa said.

Dawn has registered about 6.9 billion miles on its odometer. The space agency retired its Kepler Space Telescope on Tuesday.

"The goals we laid at Dawn, was incredible, but every time he did, says Rayman. It's hard to say goodbye to this awesome spaceship, but it's time", Rayman added. Before joining Sun Star Times Andy has written for NPR, Motherboard, MSN and the Huffington Post. It then moved to the dwarf planet Ceres in 2015, becoming the first spacecraft to visit such a space object, NASA reported.

Hamels back for 2019, trade details with Smyly
Just prior to the 2018 Major League Baseball trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs made what turned out to be a sneaky good move. On the whole, he posted a 2.36 ERA in 12 starts, pitching one complete game and striking out 74 across 76 1/3 innings.

Dawn also reinforced the idea that dwarf planets could have hosted oceans over a significant part of their history - and potentially still do.

In addition to the main objectives of the mission by taking the unique sample of the asteroid, OSIRIS-REx will also study the surface and composition of the asteroid, measure the effects of sunlight on its orbit.

"In many ways, Dawn's legacy is just beginning", said Dawn's principal investigator Carol Raymond. "Dawn's data sets will be deeply mined by scientists working on how planets grow and differentiate, and when and where life could have formed in our solar system".

Before arriving to Ceres, the spacecraft had recorded details about new phenomena that challenged everything we know about these dwarf planets.

This became the official completion of his mission and declared the assistant administrator of management of scientific missions NASA Thomas Zurbuchen in the official press release. JPL is responsible for overall Dawn mission science. The craft will continue to orbit Ceres for at least 20 years, though many on the team put that number closer to 50.
