West, who retired from Welmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield after the win, said she plans to buy a new auto for herself and take vacations.

West had her sister send her a photo of the tickets.

The win was a shock to the single mum, who struggled to persuade her three daughters and other relatives that it was for real. West opted for the cash payout, meaning she will take home almost $200 million, before taxes.

After correcting the date, she said, "It was red, red, red, red, red, red, jackpot, and I thought I've done something wrong again".

The paper reported that West, 51, grew up mainly in Earlham and has lived in Dallas County, Iowa, most of her life. She is the victor of the largest lottery prize to date in Iowa. She got a general-equivalency diploma in 1986 and an Upper Iowa University degree in human resources in 2006.

"Currently, I'm retired", she said. She would play the lottery twice a week when she could afford it. West left it on the floor of her sister's pickup truck over the weekend and had to be reminded it was there.

"Nobody believed me", West said Monday after submitting her winning ticket at lottery headquarters in suburban Des Moines.

"When you get numbers right, they show up in red", West said.

The New York victor purchased their ticket at a bodega in West Harlem.

West ended up calling her sister and her sister informed her that her tickets were in her sister's truck, which the two women had driven to Casey's the day before.

After hearing someone from Iowa had won half of a almost $700 million Powerball jackpot, Lerynne West couldn't find the ticket she'd bought the day before so asked her sister to check. But she also takes them quite seriously.

"All of a sudden, once you have won and you realize the responsibility and the impact you can make, all frivolity goes out the window".

"So that Callum Foundation is set up in honor of a grandson of mine that was born in April and he was born at 24 weeks".

At first it didn't look like West had won anything, but she realized she put in the wrong drawing date on the Iowa Lottery website. And, drive slow, ' West said in the release.

In winning the Powerball jackpot, West overcame odds of one in 292.2 million, CBS noted.

"You know, when we were dreaming about it I would get all frivolous and I would have a whole lineup of cars that I was going to buy".

"I'm gonna buy a vehicle", she said.

Her Ford Fiesta has 142,000 miles on it and it's seen better days.

"I'm going to get a auto big enough that I can take all my grandchildren places now", she said.
