FA appeals against decision to clear Mourinho of foul language charge

  • Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho leaves the touchline after the Premier League match at Old Trafford

The Football Association have appealed an Independent Regulatory Commission's ruling that Jose Mourinho was not guilty of improper conduct at the end of Manchester United's win over Newcastle.

The Chilean global was unhappy with manager, Jose Mourinho, after he was dropped earlier this season and reports claimed few weeks ago that the 29-year-old is considering leaving Old Trafford.

Mourinho was charged with improper conduct for remarks he made in his native Portuguese as he left the field at Old Trafford after the comeback win against Newcastle.

Jose Mourinho could still face punishment after the FA appealed against the decision to clear him of an abusive language charge.

The written reasons explaining the commission's decision show that both Mourinho and the FA employed Portuguese language experts.

But the FA has now announced it will appeal against the decision as it seeks punishment for Mourinho - with a possible touchline ban in the offing.

The appeal hearing will not be until the global break, meaning that a ban could be in place for Crystal Palace's visit on 24 November.

President Trump Speaks On Election Results
The GOP's successes were fuelled by a coalition that's decidedly older, whiter, more male and less likely to have college degrees. Trump sought to take credit for retaining the GOP's Senate majority, even as the party's foothold in the House was slipping.

To support his case, Mourinho also produced a list of examples where managers and players have sworn during matches and not faced FA charges. Mr Valente interpreted the words used by JM to be "Vão levar no cu, filhos da puta", repeated twice.

" In reply to the charge, JM served his own expert report from Simao Valente, an Assistant Professor at the University of Lisbon and an expert in the Portuguese language, including colloquialisms".

Valente considered the idiomatic translation was not entirely adequate or accurate as the context of United's hard match was needed along with their hard start to the season and "significant criticism in the media".

Valente then argued that it was important to pay heed to the context within which the phrase was said.

They asked Pedro Xavier, who is described as "an expert in the translation and interpretation of lip reading of colloquial Portuguese language" to study the clip of Mourinho and to offer an interpretation of the words said.

In their written reasons, the commission said: "We find that JM was celebrating victory without aiming the words at anyone in particular".
