  • Prince Charles won't ”meddle” when he succeeds as King

The Prince has given in-depth interviews to the documentary called "Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70" while programme makers have also been given exclusive access to follow the royal for the past 12 months as they made the show.

He added: "But the idea somehow that I'm going to go on in exactly the same way, if I have to succeed, is complete nonsense because the two - the two situations - are completely different".

Asked if he could continue, as king, to use his "convening power", he replies: "Well, you never know". It won't. I'm not that stupid.

"It's the things he does behind the scenes that people don't know about.I don't think people realise quite how kind he is". "So of course I understand entirely how that should operate", he said.

When questioned about what some have termed his "meddling", Charles defends his actions, which include establishing the Prince's Trust in 1976 to help disadvantaged young people.

"A lot of people, seeing my husband actually take the bride's mother by the hand to signt he registry, it's something that moved everybody", Camilla added.

The Duchess of Cornwall says that Charles knows "his destiny" so, she says: "I don't think it does weigh on his shoulders at all". Charles has reportedly written to ministers - and even the prime minister - on subjects close to his heart, stoking concern for those who believe the royals should not get involved in such debates and worry that, once king, he may not remain above politics in the way that Queen Elizabeth has. Turns out, Prince Charles is one such hero.

"So, there's nothing laid down, that's what makes it so interesting, challenging and of course complicated".

Earlier report had it that the Prince of Wales and his wife, Princess Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall were expected in Nigeria from Tuesday, November 6, to Thursday, November 8, in a high profile visit during which the royals would also have audience with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa. "And I would love to tell him to pace himself, but I'm afraid that's not gonna happen".

The second in line to the throne says: "There are so many things I admire about my father - his work ethic, his passions. but personally I want to be my own man and take my own style, my own passions and my own interests my way, and do things slightly differently".

Ahead of the Australian tour, the source added: "The Duchess doesn't want this, she does get exhausted".
