Sanef 'deeply disturbed' by arrest of Angela Quintal, Muthoki Mumo

CPJ said that Quintal, a former editor of South Africa's Mail & Guardian newspaper, and Mumo were legally in Tanzania "on a reporting mission" when they were detained.

Quintal worked for the Guardian as an editor while Ms Mumo worked for the Nation group before shifting to CPJ.

Tanzanian authorities have freed two Committee to Protect Journalists staff, Ms Muthoki Mumo and Angela Quintal, who were detained in an unknown location.

CPJ believes that their colleagues' electronics might have been compromised since a tweet was sent from Quintal's account stating that they had been released but no one has contacted them directly from the organisation.

While they are no longer in custody, Mabaya said Tanzanian authorities have their passports. South Africa's High Cmmissioner to Tanzania Mr Thami Mseleku is set to meet them and discuss about the events and then engage with the country's authorities.
