Abu Dhabi: Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has slammed New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor for making a "disgraceful" throwing gesture when facing the bowling of veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez during the one-day global in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Boult had missed the Twenty20 global series to attend the birth of his first child but it didn't take long for him to announce his arrival in the ODI series.

"Just make him play, I guess", Boult said when asked how he approached the hat-trick delivery.

Earlier, half centuries from Ross Taylor (80) and Tom Latham (68) revived New Zealand after captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat.

The homeside was 8-3 and then 85-6 before fighting back, skipper Sarfraz Ahmed leading the way with a 69-ball 64 before he was bowled by Colin de Grandholme at the end of the 41st over.

It is New Zealand's 12th straight win over Pakistan in one-dayers.

Grandhomme took 2 for 40 while Lockie Ferguson finished with 3 for 36.

Boult first bowled danger man Fakhar Zaman off his pads, before Babar Azam nicked through to slip and Mohammad Hafeez was trapped in-front, with the home side in a funk at 3/8.

The Athletic reported a month ago that Bell would qualify as a third franchise tag even if he didn't show by the deadline. Bell has been working out in Miami this season, but on Monday he tweeted "Fairwell Miami" without further explanation.

Boult joined Danny Morrison and Shane Bond in the history books of New Zealand as he absolutely shut out the Pakistan top order to inflict their first loss in nine matches.

Imam-ul-Haq (34) and Shoaib Malik (30) added 63 for the fourth wicket but both fell in successive overs before the Sarfraz-Wasim stand briefly reignited hopes.

Half-centuries from Ross Taylor and Tom Latham propelled the visiting team's score.

Paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi, playing only his fourth one-day worldwide, had jolted New Zealand at the start with the wickets of George Worker (one) and Colin Munro (29).

Shadab dismissed Kane Williamson for 27 before Taylor and Latham came together.

He dismissed Latham leg-before off the second delivery and did the same to Henry Nicholls for nought off the next and two balls later had Colin de Grandhomme caught in the slip without scoring.

"If you look at our losses majority were in New Zealand where conditions were different and we lost due to top order failure where we need to improve", said Sarfraz.

New Zealand will welcome pace spearhead Trent Boult who missed the Twenty20 series due to personal reasons while also adding batsman George Worker and spinner Ajaz Patel (as a cover for injured Todd Astle) in the squad.
