  • Rebel Wilson's defamation payout reduced by 90%

The actor speaks to the media in Canberra after the high court refused special leave for her to appeal against the withdrawal of nearly 90% of her record $4.7m defamation payout against Bauer Media.

"I'm so proud of myself that I did that and saw it out right to the bitter end".

Lawyers for Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson are set to appear in the country's highest court today in a bid to continue fighting her defamation case.

The "Pitch Perfect" star was awarded A$4.5 million (RM18.86 million) in damages against Bauer Media previous year over articles claiming she lied about her age and background to further her career.

But Wilson, who attended the brief High Court hearing in Canberra on Friday, is proud she took her fight as far as she could.

Rebel Wilson said she was glad she'd stood up to "a bully" despite losing her bid Friday to keep most of the record payout awarded to her in her defamation case against an Australian magazine.

The star of three "Pitch Perfect" movies and "Bridesmaids" won A$4.6 million ($3.5 million) in damages from the German publisher past year after a court found a series of articles accusing her of lying about her age, name and childhood events had cost her roles.

Despite Justice John Dixon awarding the Los Angeles-based star a record-breaking Australian damages payout, Bauer successfully appealed the dollar figure.

Wilson had sought $5 million ($7 million AUD) in damages.

However, a court reduced the sum on appeal.

The magazine publisher welcomed the decision.

After a brief adjournment, the High Court made a decision to refuse the special leave application, with costs.

Bauer Media said it was "pleased" that the High Court brought "an end to this matter".

'I have moved on, personally and professionally, and it's great now that it has all come to a definite end, ' she said.

She said while her appeal was unsuccessful, the whole point was "to stand up to stand up to a bully".
