Three astronauts ― one German, one Russian and one American ― are now living at the space station, which has been continually inhabited since 2000.

The Progress vehicle launched as scheduled aboard a Soyuz rocket at 12:14 a.m. November 17 local time (1:14 p.m. EST, 1814 GMT on November 16) from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Russia's Soyuz-FG carrier rocket with the Progress MS-10 space freighter will blast off from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan on Friday, for the first time since the aborted launch in mid-October.

They mark the first cargo missions to ISS since a Soyuz rocket carrying three people bound for the space station failed on October 11 just minutes after blast-off ― the first such incident in the history of post-Soviet space travel.

The faulty sensor "was damaged during the assembling of the strap-on boosters with the core stage (the Packet) at the Baikonur Cosmodrome", according to Oleg Skorobogatov, the Central Research Institute of Machine Building deputy director general and head of the investigation committee.

In 2017, the North released a United States student who had been arrested a year earlier for stealing a propaganda sign. He later hailed the test as a "decisive turn in bolstering the fighting capacity" of the North's military.

Russian Federation then suspended manned space missions and is planning a new one for early December.

Since that event, two Soyuz rockets were launched successfully from Plesetsk in northwestern Russian Federation, while another lifted off from French Guiana.

The capsule of the Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft with Russian cosmonaut Alexei Ovchinin and US astronaut Nick Hague on board made an emergency landing in Kazakhstan after the carrier rocket malfunctioned shortly after lift-off. This launch was the first rocket of this type after the accident on October 11.

The spacecraft will dock to the Zvezda module to deliver about 2.5 tonnes of cargo, including fuel, water and pressurized gases. Northrop Grumman will launch another cargo shipment in a Cygnus capsule, powered by an Antares rocket, early Saturday morning (Nov. 17).

The current crew is scheduled to return to Earth next month after the arrival of their replacements.
