De Gea faces competition for his worldwide place from goalkeepers including Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Saul came out in defence of the United star ahead of a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday.

The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are ready to target the £60m-rated 24-year-old and try and bring him to Old Trafford in the new year.

Gary Neville admits Jordan Pickford isn't his "idea of what a goalkeeper should be" amid speculation that Manchester United are interested in the Everton star.

The Manchester United 'keeper was Spain's number one at the World Cup, where he also made mistakes - most notably in their opening encounter against Portugal, in which he parried a Cristiano Ronaldo strike into the net.
