"We are working with the family in the United Kingdom and New Zealand Police in relation to reports of a missing British national in New Zealand".

'We are really, really anxious and concerned about Grace.

Ms Millane's brother, Michael, said she had travelled to Peru as part of an organised group for six weeks but had not travelled on her own - until she arrived in New Zealand two weeks ago.

"The concern is that the family have not heard from her and when her 22nd birthday was on 2 December, that's when you'd expect to hear or for them to contact her so that's why there's concern".

A number of unconfirmed sightings have been reported to detectives.

She was staying in a "party hostel" and was in regular contact with her family and friends until Saturday night - the day before her birthday.

Grace Millane's father is said to be on his way to the country, where his 22-year-old daughter vanished on Saturday.

During that time she had been in touch with her family daily through WhatsApp.

However she was travelling alone when she came to New Zealand about two weeks ago.

Base Backpackers is located on Queen St in Auckland's CBD. She is approximately 5ft 6in (168cm) in height and 58kg.

The hostel said it was making "no comment" about the case.

Declan Millane said a few people had reached out to the family with potential sightings.

"There's been nothing (communication since Saturday) between her and her family, no", Mr Beard said.

Base Backpackers declined to comment to the Herald on Wednesday.

"We are working closely with her family at this time and a number of Police staff are now working on this matter".
