  • A red London bus makes it's way through the City of London

uSwitch mobile phone expert Ernest Doku has advised users how to cope without data, saying: "O2 users affected by this mobile data outage will understandably be concerned and frustrated". Our technical teams are working extremely hard to resolve this.

Outages were reported across the United Kingdom, including Manchester, London and Exeter.

In a tweet, the network said that the issue lay with one of its third-party suppliers, and recommended that users switch to Wi-Fi wherever possible. Voice calls are working OK.

If you spent this morning freaking out you'd used up your data allowance and tried desperately to call O2 to give them a piece of your mind, you're not alone.

A statement on the O2 Twitter account reads: "We are aware our customers are unable to use data this morning".

"We apologise for any inconvenience", the firm said, after problems were first reported at around 5.30am.

O2 has 32 million customers, including people signed up to Tesco Mobile, Sky, Lycamobile and GiffGaff. Transport information services have also been affected.

However, some users are reporting that they're also unable to make voice calls or send text messages, so the full scope of the problem is unclear at present.

It is not clear when the issue will be resolved, but O2 said it would share further updates as soon as possible.

The company, the second-largest mobile network in the United Kingdom, said it was investigating the technical fault.

Some customers can not even reach the service status page.
