Arsenal have released a statement confirming that they will issue warnings to some of their star players after a video emerged showing them allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide.

Stars including Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi feature in the footage, which appears to come from CCTV footage and was published by The Sun.

An Arsenal spokesperson told the BBC players would be "spoken to and reminded of their responsibilities".

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, slows down the brain's functions, which can lead to feelings of euphoria, but large doses of the gas has also been known to starve the brain of oxygen, which can have serious and potentially deadly consequences.

Arsenal defender Rob Holding to miss rest of season?
I thought Arsenal just about edged it, but I think United can move on from here. I think the referee's decision is not important today for the result".

Players from other clubs, such as Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish and Nathaniel Clyne, have all been accused of inhaling "hippy crack" in the last few years, so it's not an uncommon practice amongst footballers.

While it is not illegal to possess the drug, it is illegal to give away or sell.

Arsenal began the season with two defeats but have been in excellent form under new manager Unai Emery since.

The incident took place in August, just before the start of the season, when a number of the London club's squad members enjoyed a night out at Tape Club.
