  • Valve’s CS:GO is the latest to shove in a battle royale mode

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is officially free-to-play on PC and Mac, and a new, smaller scale battle royale mode has been added. Yes, you read that right! Streaming statistics websites TwitchTracker and SullyGnome show about that same number of viewers for last night's peak for CS:GO, which made it the highest peak for the game since the IEM Chicago grand finals on November 11. Additionally, original owners will receive Prime match making status so as to avoid playing with new accounts that are more likely to be ban evaders or less than stellar community members. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the latest game to implement Battle Royale. Now, along with the free game, players can earn "prime status", which entitles them to "prime-exclusive souvenir items, item drops, and weapon cases", according to a statement. Just like standard Counter-Strike, you can then use that cash to purchase additional weapons. Unlike other battle royale modes, weapons mostly aren't found lying around. If you queue as a solo player, you'll enter a 16 player match. Calling in a delivery not only gives enemies a flying little drone to follow to your location, but puts a rough (or specific, with upgrades) location marker on their map, giving them a chance to circle around and ambush you as you pick up gear. Players can queue into the mode as solo players, or in squads of two or three players. There are also optional mission objectives that rescuing hostages, or blowing up safes that can earn extra cash.

As in other battle royale games, players must find weapons around the map and secure supply drops for special equipment.

Meanwhile, in all modes of CS:GO, players will now be separated into two matchmaking groups: Prime and non-prime.
