The headliners are two new headsets, including the Vive Pro Eye, which adds eye-tracking to last year's high-end hardware, and the Vive Cosmos, which turns the tracking inside out. Plus, it comes with a flip-up design, so you can swap between reality and virtual reality instantly.

HTC has announced a virtual reality headset at CES 2019. Cosmos is usable both at home or on the go, according to HTC.

In addition to enabling eye control, eye tracking technology opens the door for foveated rendering, which involves only rendering the part of the experience where the user is looking.

Instead of using hand controllers to navigate content, the headset uses "gaze-oriented menu navigation".

AirPlay 2 And HomeKit Support Coming to VIZIO SmartCast TVs This Year
According to Samsung, a new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app will be rolling out to Samsung Smart TVs in over 100 countries. All this content will be integrated into Samsung's search feature, including the Bixby voice search functionality.

That's ranged from a belief that this brand could take on the iPhone with the HTC Desire (which it did) to charting new territory into virtual worlds with the Vive headset (which offered a possible, exciting view of the future rather than an awesome product we could buy right now). In the meantime, I'm going to continue being rather excited about a VR headset that uses eye-tracking.

Since the Vive Pro Eye will track eye movements, it can optimize the virtual world in reaction to a user's focus. There's also no external tracking required.

Admittedly, it's not entirely clear from HTC's press release whether the Vive Cosmos is, in fact, a PC-based headset. Lockheed Martin is using the Vive Pro Eye to help train student pilots, for example.

HTC Vive Cosmos developer kits will arrive early this year, with general availability and pricing info to be revealed later in 2019. "We believe Cosmos will make VR more easily accessible to those who may not have invested in VR before and also be a superior experience for VR enthusiasts". And HTC is also looking to reimagine the whole VR experience with its new Vive Reality System. The company created this as a headset that can be used anywhere. A render that appeared on-screen during HTC's CES press conference clearly showed a smartphone form factor overlaid onto the headset, though the company stopped short of outright saying it would work with smartphones. On the Cosmos website, HTC also said Cosmos will have an "ever-increasing suite of modular customisations".
