Yesterday, Ubisoft has announced that its upcoming online shooter The Division 2 for PC will not be coming to Steam.

Epic says that it'll be partnering with Epic again in future with "additional select titles" to be announced later this year.

"We entrust Epic to deliver a smooth journey for our fans, from preordering the game and enjoying our Beta to the launch of Tom Clancy's The Division 2 on March 15", Ubisoft vice president of partnerships Chris Early said in the announcement.

In December a year ago, Fortnite and Unreal engine maker Epic launched its own digital PC game store. (The Division 2 is one of relatively few games that could easily reach this threshold; the original Division broke all sorts of sales records.) That's $10 million to Valve for distribution.

The Division 2, which is set to officially release on March 15, 2019, will be available on the Epic Games Store, and will not be accessible on Steam. We logged into our Epic Games Store account and were able to verify that this is indeed the case, although we're unsure if users would be able to change their location or spoof it using a VPN just to get a better deal, it's something that's still possible on GOG. It also offers developers a generous 88% cut of revenues.

Support-A-Creator was initially released by Epic Games in Fortnite for a limited time as a way for various content creators to earn money based on community support. Ubisoft fully supports Epic and their third-party distribution model, which is in the long-term, beneficial for publishers both large and indie and the video games industry.

That alone would have been big enough news, but the fact that The Division 2, and every other title in the Epic Games Store, will be a part of the Support-A-Creator program is yet another big move on Epic's part that will surely entice more companies to their platform. It will also offer a "substantial" campaign and a "robust" endgame that will expand via free DLC for all players.
