Steelers president on Antonio Brown: ‘We’ll look at all the options’

Art Rooney II publicly said it is "hard to envision" Antonio Brown remaining with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. But, he's in no hurry. He also said the team is not closing the door on the possibility of smoothing things over with Brown, but he is not optimistic that will happen. "We don't have to make those decisions right now". The team president added he and coach Mike Tomlin have not spoken to Brown.
Unfortunately for the 49ers players, their social media outreach won't do much good in light of Rooney's comments that Brown won't be released.
A team such as the San Francisco 49ers could be interested, as they have the cap space and the need for a wide receiver to help spur the offense. 49ers tight end George Kittle was quick to reach out to Brown, tweeting "Sup?" at the seven-time Pro Bowler. Pittsburgh may ask for a first-round pick for the receiver. We all know there have been problems with Brown's attitude and his relationship with the team over the last two seasons. There's plenty to sort out with the team in general after missing the postseason, and the recent rash of drama that has inflicted it the past few years clearly has had an effect on the on-field product.
Rooney said the cap hit would not play into the team's decision. All the recruiting in the world doesn't matter if the Steelers trade him elsewhere. Once again, after dealing with the Le'Veon Bell contract situation for two years and finally moving on from him, the Steelers are embroiled in yet another conflict with a star skill-position player that might drag on.
That's why this story is so tricky - and so fascinating - as the Steelers head into one of the more critical offseasons they've had in a long time.
