  • Officer Natalie Corona completed field training just before Christmas and had been out on her own for just a couple of weeks

Corona, 22, died within minutes of arriving at the scene of a three-car accident.

Nancy Reynoso-Williams offered her "deepest condolences" for the loss of Officer Corona. Unwilling to endanger personnel, they sent a robot with a camera inside, where they discovered the suspect dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

As Corona was treated for multiple gunshot wounds including one to her neck, the suspect fled the scene, heading south on C Street toward Third Street and apparently circling the block before returning to his house at 501 E St.

Police said Officer Natalie Corona was shot after responding alone to a traffic accident shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday in the city west of Sacramento, a college town home to the University of California, Davis where there has not been a fatal police shooting in almost 60 years.

Witnesses said the gunman, whose name has not been released, rode on a bicycle and shot Corona, who fell to the ground.

Corona was the first Davis police officer killed in the line of duty since Douglas Cantrill was gunned down September 7, 1959, the Bee reported.

Corona's killing - Davis' first officer death in almost 60 years - sent dozens of federal, state, county and local law-enforcement officers swarming throughout the city in the manhunt for the shooter, which more than six hours later remained underway.

Corona was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where she later died.

Corona is a 2014 graduate of Pierce High School, according to the Pioneer Review.

Forbes explained that: "Altogether the 20 African tycoons are worth $68.7 billion, down from $75.4 billion for last year's list ". Her net worth dropped due a decline in the value of the oil field, in part because its production has leveled off.

"Despite the lifesaving efforts that were provided by firefighters who were immediately adjacent because the primary fire station is right near where this happened, they weren't able to save her", Pytel said.

Police had had previous contact with the man, but nothing suspicious or indicating he had mental issues, the chief said. "So, you know, this is a department that's not really used to that". "We saw you at the door", they said over a loudspeaker. "Come outside with your hands up".

There will be a candlelight vigil for Corona in Central Park in Davis at 6 p.m. on January 12. Corona was the first officer to respond to the scene.

"As she was investigating the vehicle crash for some reason shots were fired", said Lt. Paul Doroshov.

Pytel said the department hasn't had an officer die in the line of duty since 1959.

The gunman then reloaded and began shooting seemingly at random, striking a house, a fire engine, a passing bus and a backpack whose owner had been loading it into her auto trunk.

Several law enforcement agencies joined in the search for the suspect, who has been described as a white man in his 20s wearing a baseball cap, black jacket, blue or tan jeans and black tactical boots.

The suspect is believed to be on foot. It was also unclear whether the other involved motorists had been questioned.

Corona started with the Davis Police Department as a community service officer, the Bee reported.

"We're all pretty shocked", Doroshov said.

The last Davis officer killed was Officer Douglas Cantrill, according to Doroshov. His killer was never caught and the case remains unsolved. "I think everyone is holding it together, trying to do their jobs very professionally, but it's hard". Shell casings were found all over the street. Two suspects were apprehended, but no murder charges ever filed.

Corona is the first law-enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in Yolo County since June 15, 2008, when Yolo County sheriff's Deputy Jose "Tony" Diaz was gunned down after pursuing a suspected drunk driver in rural Dunnigan.
