SpaceX founder Elon Musk posted photos of the company's new Starship Hopper test flight rocket recently.

"Either of these developments, even when attempted separately, have bankrupted other organisations". "This action is taken only due to the extraordinarily hard challenges ahead and would not otherwise be necessary".

Two years ago, Musk in a tweet claimed that BFR, also known as Starship, "will take you anywhere on Earth in less than 60 minutes".

Starlink saw layoffs in June, when at least seven members of the program's senior management team in Redmond, Wash., were let go because CEO Elon Musk was unhappy with the pace of the project, according to Reuters.

The management shakeup involved Musk bringing in new managers from SpaceX headquarters in California to replace a number of the managers he fired in Seattle.

SpaceX now launches regular supply missions to the astronauts living at the International Space Station, using its Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon cargo capsule. The Wall Street Journal reported last month that the company was raising $500 million from investors to help launch its satellite internet service.

The Hawthorne, California-based company had earlier outlined plans for a trip to Mars in 2022, to be followed by a manned mission to the red planet by 2024.

The statement did not disclose the size of the layoffs, but a company source, speaking on background, estimated the cuts at 10 percent of the workforce. Only the headline has been changed.
