Pucovski, Burns & Renshaw Called up; Marsh Brothers & Finch Dropped for SL Tests

  • Will Pucovski is expected to be called into the Australian test squad on Wednesday

In order to fine tune their preparation for the series, Pucovski, Burns and Renshaw will play the three-day practice match with the pink ball against Sri Lanka.

The 20-year-old is one of the brightest batting talents in the country, scoring a double century for Victoria last year - the first Australian under 21 to do so since Ricky Ponting.

Pucovski, a Victorian lad, caught the attention of selectors in October after belting a masterful innings of 243 against Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield match.

QUEENSLAND has come to the rescue of Australia's struggling Test team with Bulls batsmen Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns called up for baggy green duties.

Shaun Marsh, Mitch Marsh, Peter Handscomb and Aaron Finch were dumped, while openers Joe Burns and Matthew Renshaw have been recalled. Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb and Marsh brothers have found themselves out of the side.

"They have been given a good opportunity, but have not produced the scores we need".

Half-brother of Meghan Markle arrested on DUI charge
Meghan Markle's half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. is making headlines again, but this time it isn't for their family feud. TMZ stated that the 52-year-old was stopped by police at 1:33 AM in OR and taken into custody for impaired driving.

"Matt Renshaw is a player with the ability to make big scores and at 22 years old has 10 first-class centuries".

"Will Pucovski is an exciting young player who is making his mark in the Sheffield Shield", said Australia selector Trevor Hohns added.

Hohns, Justin Langer and Greg Chappell are now attempting to fix a misfiring top six during a two-month period in which domestic players can only make their case in Twenty20 cricket. He also performed extremely well in England during the County season. However, he has only played eight first-class matches because of mental health issues.

Renshaw belted three hundreds while scoring 513 runs in 11 county innings for Somerset, helping him to the top of the world's first-class run scoring charts by June a year ago.

Australia's batting is under the pump after a deflating performance in the four-test series against India in which no player scored a hundred, with the hosts arguably flattered by a 2-1 series defeat that was completed when rain forced a draw in Sydney. The left-hander has only managed 199 runs at 19.9 in Sheffield Shield so far but had a superb County season with Somerset past year.

Meanwhile, Renshaw played last of his 11 Tests in March-April 2018 when he had to fly to South Africa for the final Test after ball-tampering scandal broke out in Cape Town.
