Apple addresses bent iPad Pro controversy with new support page

The support note mentions that the new iPad Pro's specification for flatness during inspection is tighter than previous generations, only allowing for 400 microns of deviation - or less than a stack of four sheets of paper - across the length of any side.

In other words, the latest iPad Pros are actually held to a stricter standard for flatness than previous iPads, but even the smallest variations may now be more visible than on previous models due to the new straight edges of the device. With that said, Apple recently published a new support document which addresses the issue and sheds a bit more light on the iPad Pro manufacturing process.

According to Apple, the new design and the presence of antenna modems on the new iPad versions might make it easier for the slight bend to be visible by the customer from certain angles.

After a series of reports and rumours, Apple has acknowledged that a certain percentage of the new iPad Pros are shipping with a small structural bend in the chassis. "After the plastic cools, the entire enclosure is finished with a precision CNC machining operation, yielding a seamless integration of plastic and aluminum into a single, strong enclosure", it says. And whether or not an iPad Pro bends to the extent exhibited by Zack Nelson in his viral JerryRigEverything review, one would hope that a product potentially running customers more than $1,000 doesn't come bent straight out of the packaging. The company assures users that a bend within 400 microns will not affect iPad Pro's strength of the enclosure or its performance. The product specifications dictate that the flatness of finished models can not deviate more than 400 microns.

Apple has faced problems before with the iPhone 6 and iPod nano bending, as well as "antennagate" with the iPhone 4. Meaning The $999 512 GB 10.5 inch iPad Pro is discounted to just $799 for a few hours.

Segregated roads are common in the West bank, but until now, none are divided along their entire length by a wall. Israel says the barrier is necessary for security, but for Palestinians it has become a symbol of the occupation.

When it comes to specs, as you would expect, the newer 2018 iPad Pros have the faster A12X Bionic chip with a built-in neural engine for AI-assisted calculations (think augmented reality and voice detection).

Last September I wondered if an iPad - with iOS 11 and the Files app - might replace my MacBook.

If you're already an iPad Pro user that relies on the Apple Pencil and are planning on upgrading to a new iPad Pro, then Apple has a nasty surprise in store for you. Otherwise, Apple contends, these deviations "are imperceptible during normal use".

Many complain that their tablets slightly bent.
