Australian Alex de Minaur's semi-final against Gilles Simon at the Sydney International has been postponed until Saturday morning due to rain.

The world No.29's court coverage was enormous as always, regularly chasing down his Italian opponent's forehands and wearing the 34-year-old down over the 2hr 5min clash to make amends for last year's final loss to Daniil Medvedev.

19-year-old Alex De Minaur is already an ATP champion!

Rising star Alex De Minaur comes into the tournament in good form after claiming his first-ever title at the Sydney International.

Seppi, also 34, is playing in his first final in three and a half years after beating Argentine Diego Schwartzman on Friday, having not won a tournament since 2012.

It came after de Minaur's earlier 1hr 34min 6-3 6-2 victory over Simon, where he never really looked challenged but had to endure temperatures of more than 30 degrees. "To be able to do it at my home in front of my friends and family, it's always that much more special", he said.

The up-and-coming star's straight sets victory is the flawless warm-up two days out from his first-round Australian Open clash with Portugal's Pedro Sousa.

'I knew coming in that if I wanted to come away with a trophy, I was going to have to play two really tough matches, ' he said.

Now the world number 29, De Minaur faced minimal trouble in dispatching Simon. "I didn't want to overthink it and I'm happy with the way I composed myself during the match", said Kenin, ranked 56 in the world.

"I think they're punishing Aussies for playing deep in their home tournaments, and I think that should not be what they should be doing".

"A lot of work, a lot of training, a lot of sacrifice goes into even making a final and to get a win, I'm speechless". I played three times in the night, so for me it was totally different conditions, which from the beginning I feel very, very slow.

His reward is a return on Wednesday to play Mirza Basic or Henri Laaksonen for a likely third-round shootout with the great Rafael Nadal. "Fitness-wise, I felt like I could keep going, as well".
