The Chang'e-4 lunar probe was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China on December 8, 2018, and entered orbit around the Moon five days later. Longjiang-2 captured this photo during the new moon, when the Earth-facing side of the moon was completely dark and the far side was entirely illuminated instead.

A Chinese lunar orbiter has taken a stunning image that shows the giant rear side of the moon with a tiny planet Earth nearby, the media reported.

Chang'e 4, part of China's ambitious plan to become a major space power by 2030, is composed of two parts: a lander, which powered the journey to the moon, and a rover, which detached from the lander after impact to explore the moon's surface. Queqiiao satellite played a significant role in the entire landing mission. The image, which was captured by the Longjiang-2 satellite that was sent skyward a year ago, even features Earth photobombing scene in the background.

The CNSA lifted Longjiang-2's silent period in mid-January, allowing the satellite to take photographs once more.

On 3rd February, a command was sent to the camera to capture a time-lapse of the Earth-Moon system, which was successfully accomplished. Queqiiao is now located in a stable position near the Moon and beams back radio signals from Chang'e-4 lander and DSLWP-B to Earth. The tiny satellite is capable of carrying out some complex scientific studies through space.

The photo captured by the satellite three days back was downloaded by the Dwingeloo Telescope in the Netherlands.
