A devastating blaze at British online supermarket Ocado's OCDO.L flagship packing and distribution complex in southern England has been extinguished, but firefighters will remain at the site for now.

The firm paid for hotel rooms for those who had to leave their homes during the night and sent its distinctive Ocado vans packed with food, drink, nappies and other essentials to Andover to help.

"As previously announced, there has been substantial damage to the Andover building and its contents".

Ocado said it had been forced to cancel some customer orders because of the fire and it was "working hard to resume normal service as soon as possible". "Ocado is grateful for the patience and understanding of customers during this period".

Firefighters were called to the Ocado warehouse in the early morning on 5 February to tackle the blaze.
