According to the Fresno Bee, a Fresno Bee newspaper carrier was delivering papers in Madera - traveling at about 5 miles per hour - when he noticed the newborn baby in the middle of the dark road. They are searching for a Hispanic woman in her 20s who reportedly asked a man if "he could take her child" a short time earlier. She was being treated as of Monday afternoon at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, CBS Sacramento reported, and was said to be in good condition. This female got out of her vehicle, asked the man if he could help her and asked him to take her child.

It's unclear how long the newborn had been left in the road. He referred her to a nearby fire station and hospital and left the area. "The mother was asking for help but was not overly distraught".

Fuentes called authorities and the baby girl was rushed to a hospital. "The newborn was discovered dressed only in a soiled onesie in weather just below 30 degrees".

According to ABC News, a newspaper delivery person found the baby early Monday lying "on the centre line of a roadway".

The California Highway Patrol said: 'The California Highway Patrol would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone of California's Safely Surrendered Baby Law. "She was cold but was found soon enough, likely in only a matter of minutes, and is expected to make a full recovery".
