The Wall Street Journal reported late previous year that the deal between Apple and the VA will include technical support and special tools that will allow veterans now enrolled in the system to transfer their health records to the iPhone. "It's truly an honor to contribute to the improved healthcare of America's heroes".

Veterans will be the latest group of patients to have their health records in their pockets with a joint announcement from Apple Inc. and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Monday.

This is not Apple's first partnership related to the military. The type of information they'll be able to access includes allergies, conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications, procedures, vitals statistics and more.

Apple is increasing its Health Records characteristic in iOS to cowl one of many bigger teams within the United States: particularly, veterans.

Apple first introduced this feature in March 2018 with support for more than 40 health systems, including Duke, NYU Langone, Stanford, and Yale.

"This means VA patients will get a single, integrated snapshot of their health profile whenever they want quickly and privately", Apple wrote in a news release.

"By bringing Health Records on iPhone to VA patients, we hope veterans will experience improved healthcare that will enhance their lives".

"These proposed rules strive to bring the nation's healthcare system one step closer to a point where patients and clinicians have the access they need to all of a patient's health information, helping them in making better choices about care and treatment", said HHS Secretary Alex Azar.

User data stored on Apple's Health app is encrypted and accessible only to the iPhone user via their passcode, Touch, or Face ID.

Apple's goal, according to Kevin Lynch, its vice president of technology, is to give veterans the opportunity "to better understand and improve their health".

The VA is the largest health-care organization in the nation with more than 1,200 facilities in total providing health care to more than 9 million Americans.
