The bomber targeted a bus transporting personnel on the Khash-Zahedan road in Sistan-Baluchestan province, near the border with Pakistan.

In September a year ago, Isis militants and an Arab group claimed responsibility for a deadly assault on a military parade, also in the country's south, that killed and wounded dozens of people, including members of the Guards.

Wednesday's violence comes during a month in which Iran has been commemorating the 1979 Islamic Revolution which swept the US -backed Shah from power.

Also in December of the same year, four Iranian policemen were killed and 42 other people were wounded in a suicide vehicle bomb attack on a police headquarters in the country's southeast.

The statement does not give the exact number of the martyred soldiers and the injured.

And in October, Jaish al-Adl kidnapped at least 10 security personnel, including several Revolutionary Guards, at a border post in Mirjaveh.

Both the jihadist group Islamic State (IS) and Iranian ethnic Arab separatists claimed they were behind the assault, but neither provided conclusive evidence.

Iranian officials have blamed Saudi Arabia and the United States for stirring up dissent in the country.

The U.S. -led conference in Warsaw is the work of President Donald Trump, who campaigned on a promise of tearing up Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers.

Zarif tweeted Wednesday night: "Is it no coincidence that Iran is hit by terror on the very day that #WarsawCircus begins? United States seems to always make the same wrong choices, but expect different results", Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif said in reaction to the attack. Since then, the United Nations says Iran has kept up its side of the bargain, though Iranian officials have increasingly threatened to resume higher enrichment.

"Especially when cohorts of same terrorists cheer it from Warsaw streets & support it with twitter bots?"

The group, which is based in Pakistan, opposes the government in Tehran and has in the past carried out successful attacks against Iranian troops, including kidnappings, and an April 2017 ambush on the Pakistan border that killed nine border guards.

Zarif earlier predicted the Warsaw summit would not be productive for the U.S.
