Mozilla Launches ‘Firefox Send’: A Free & Encrypted File Sharing Service

  • Firefox Send lets you share 2.5GB encrypted files for free

Mozilla has publicly launched its Firefox Send file-sharing service after a lengthy testing period. Available through any browser at send.firefox.com, Firefox Send allows you to upload files and send them to someone else with end-to-end encryption.

For example, you can set it to self-destruct after a certain number of downloads or after a pre-determined amount of time has elapsed.

The full version of Firefox Send, which does not require Firefox to use, has the same 1GB file size limit as its predecessor for unregistered users accessing the service anonymously; those willing to register for a free Firefox account, meanwhile, have this limit increased to 2.5GB. Send the link to the intended recipient any way you see fit, and their download of the files will begin when they either click on it or enter it in their browser. You can share a link to the uploaded files with anyone.

To protect the file with a password for an extra layer of security.

YouTube Music Launches in India: Everything You Need to Know
Android users can download Google's new music streaming app from Play Store while Apple iPhone users can download from App Store . The interface is a simple black and keeps it easy to navigate from the home screen to the Library and search tabs.

Mozilla's offering is hardly innovative, but it's easy to use and feels less cumbersome than other services. The recipient doesn't need a Firefox account to access your file.

Firefox Send is live now on its official subdomain, with the promise of an Android app landing in beta form some time later this week.

Users' files are first encrypted in the browser and then stored in the cloud, so Mozilla will have to pay for both the bandwidth and the storage of those files.

Firefox Send is free for anyone to use. The service, which will serve as a direct competitor to the publicly traded Dropbox, lets anyone quickly, and easily, share important files, before it gives them the disappearing Snapchat treatment, making them disappear forever into the dark void of the Internet.
