  • Lori Loughlin When Calls the Heart

Mr Singer is scheduled to plead guilty on Tuesday in Boston Federal Court to charges including racketeering, money laundering and obstruction of justice, according to court papers.

Her husband, actor William H. Macy, has not been charged, although an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent stated in an affidavit that he was in the room when Huffman first heard the pitch from a scam insider.

Loughlin was out of town at the time due to filming but has since turned herself in to authorities. Her husband, the designer Mossimo Gianulli, is also charged with fraud, and appeared in court in Los Angeles on Tuesday before being released on $1 million bail.

The consultant also hired ringers to take college entrance exams for students and paid off insiders at testing centers to correct students' answers, they said.

The two are among 50 people charged for taking part in the largest such scam in US history, which the scheme's mastermind said in court documents steered some 800 students into elite universities including Yale, Georgetown and Stanford by cheating the admissions process.

Federal prosecutors in Boston charged William "Rick" Singer, 58, with running the scheme through his Edge College & Career Network, which charged up to $2.5 million per child for the services, which were masked as contributions to a scam charity.

Meanwhile, celebrities have jumped on social media to comment on the nationwide college admissions scam and the alleged involvement of two of their own, Huffman and Loughlin.
