  • E. coli outbreak likely linked to ground beef, CDC says

At this time no common supplier, distributor, or brand of ground beef has been identified as the source of this E. coli outbreak, but the CDC is now investigating the locations these ill people purchased ground beef from or ordered at a restaurant to determine this. The agency says that preliminary interviews with infected individuals revealed that ground beef is a common factor between them - some consumed the food while at home, while others likely picked up the infection from restaurant meals.

"Traceback investigations are ongoing to determine the source of ground beef supplied to grocery stores and restaurant where ill people ate", said an update on the CDC website. In addition, raw meat should be stored away from other food products that aren't cooked, such as fruit.

So far, the outbreak has sickened 109 people in six states. Of those impacted, 17 were hospitalized for treatment of the E. coli O103 strain causing the illness. No one has died. Currently, Kentucky has reported 54 cases - the higest among the six states - while Tennessee reports 28 cases.

As of the most recent update, this is the third largest E. coli outbreak in the United States in the last two decades.

Over the past year, E. coli prompted widespread recalls of romaine lettuce, but that outbreak was declared over in January.

However, it looks like they'll have to survive without him for another two months, which will be easier said than done. Furthermore, the Yankees won't be rushing Severino back under any circumstances.

Those involved in the E. coli outbreak said they purchased or ate ground beef from several different grocery stores and restaurants.

Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.

This is the third-largest E.coli outbreak in the USA in 20 years, with about 17 people having been hospitalized so far.

Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek medical care immediately.
