Burdened with high operating costs and a huge debt, Jet Airways has been facing the biggest crisis in its history, according to reports.

Jet Airways Aircraft Maintenance Engineers' Association (JAMEWA) said that it had no plans of going on strike. Adi Partners, a London-based firm, is reportedly also associated with the consortium. "It could be financial investor, it could be airline. including Naresh Goyal himself or Etihad", he said last month. "In another day or two, more than 20,000 people in Jet Airways can be unemployed".

However, Goyal had not met those conditions in his bid submitted on Friday, the sources said adding a final decision on the bid would be conveyed to him after considering legal opinion.

Any move like refusal or delay in the release the fund on the part of the lenders will totally ground the beleaguered Jet Airways immediately, said the report.

It was earlier reported that they would stop flying from Monday, April 15.

Pilots at India's Jet Airways have been told by their union to put off a planned strike to give its management and key lender State Bank of India time to strike a deal to keep the debt-laden airline flying, ANI reported on Sunday.

Troubles at Jet Airways mounted on Friday, prompting the Prime Minister's Office to hold an urgent meeting as the carrier's fleet dropped to a mere 11 and it made a decision to extend its cancellation of global operations till Monday.

"Jet Airways has now suspended operations to the SAARC and Asean destinations, as well as to Toronto and Paris from Chennai and back", Jet Airways said in a statement. "In light of the meeting, members have requested through their Team Leaders that call of No Pay No Work be deferred to give the airline a chance of survival".

"Till date we are awaiting the funding and, meanwhile, our beloved airline is dying a slow death along with unpaid salaries of pilots and engineers for over 3 months", a member said. It also announced the resignation of one of its independent directors, Rajshree Pathy, from the company for other commitments. This apart, the airline has also defaulted on the March salary of other categories of employees as well.

According to Hindustan Times, Jet Airways has suspended operations to regions in South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and Association of Southeast Asian Nations and extended suspension of services to Toronto and Paris from Chennai and back.
