  • FBI looks for woman ‘infatuated’ with Columbine shooting after threats to school

Following a lockdown at Columbine High School and other Denver area schools, authorities say they are looking for a woman suspected of making threats.

The Denver office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) are seeking the public's help regarding a potential threat posed by Sol Pais, an 18-year-old woman who allegedly travelled to Colorado on Monday night and made threats.

Another neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said her children attended Miami Beach High School with Pais. She was last seen in the foothills west of Denver, was considered armed and extremely unsafe and should not be approached, they said.

Pais is a white female, 5-foot-5, with brown hair, and she was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers as well as black combat boots.

Pais is considered a threat to the community and schools, but there is no information on any specific threat to a particular location, Phillips said.

Columbine and dozens of other Denver-area schools were issued a security threat Tuesday afternoon and a decision will be made early Wednesday as to whether schools will be in session or other security measures taken, officials said in a late-night press conference.

After-school activities and sports practices also continued as scheduled - except at Columbine, where they were canceled for the day, the school said.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis says the threat that prompted a lockdown at Columbine High School and other Denver-area schools involved someone who was armed and "may be interested in harming our schools or our kids". The students walked to crosswalks and buses parked near the entrance.

Jenny Fulton, another sheriff's spokesperson, said the FBI was investigating the apparent threat. "We will have extra safety and security staff on site at all schools affected".

She then bought a pump-action shotgun "immediately" upon arriving in Colorado.

The 20th anniversary of the shooting at Columbine High School is days away.

Since April 20, 1999, when two gunmen stormed Columbine, killed 13 people and wounded 24 more, threats of violence have become a painful fact of everyday life for the high school and the highly-trained security team tasked with keeping it safe.

The 20th anniversary of the attack is on 20 April.

That system was tested in December, when Columbine High School went into lockout for hours on a Thursday. There was no immediate indication whether there was any connection to the anniversary.

Officials didn't provide further details or reveal where Pais traveled from, saying it would compromise their investigation.

In a lockout, exterior doors are locked, and school continues as normal.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said deputies were posted at the schools involved.

The 20th anniversary of the shooting at Columbine is Saturday.
