Israel Folau to challenge Rugby Australia's decision to sack him

  • Israel Folau was shocked to learn his contract was in jeopardy following his latest social media outburst

Declaring on Monday that Folau was in breach of contract, Castle said: "Following the events of a year ago, Israel was warned formally and repeatedly about the expectations of him as a player for the Wallabies and NSW Waratahs with regards to social media use and he has failed to meet those obligations".

Australia's full-back Israel Folau scores a try during the worldwide rugby union test match between England and Australia at Twickenham stadium in south-west London on 24 November 2018.

The religiously motivated Folau attracted the fresh storm of controversy when he posted on Instagram: "Warning".

Folau, 30, faces his multi-million dollar contract being terminated and was given 48 hours to ask for the hearing or accept being sacked.

Rugby star Israel Folau has requested a Code of Conduct hearing from Rugby Australia after it was announced his contract would be torn up over an anti-gay social media post.

RA chief executive Raelene Castle has said Folau was warned formally and repeatedly previous year about the expectation of him as a Wallabies and Waratahs player in regards to his social media use, following similar controversial posts.

Folau will be able to state his case in a bid to keep his job playing for Australia. The report says the lack of social media clauses are central to his defence.

The scores of outstanding questions about the investigation have not stopped the president and his allies from declaring victory. Mueller says about obstruction of justice after the special counsel specifically said the report was not an exoneration.

Raelene Castle, chief executive of Rugby Australia, said Folau had been warned in the past about his social media posts.

"After the date for the hearing is confirmed Rugby Australia and the NSW Rugby Union will make no further comment on the matter until the Code of Conduct process has concluded".

A former club and country team-mate of Israel Folau has issued a stinging put-down following the full-back's decision to challenge his attempted sacking by Rugby Australia. The body has to weigh up the fact that it's a World Cup year with the fact Folau was seriously cautioned last year for essentially doing the exact same thing.

Hopoate wrote on Facebook in a since deleted post that he does not know why everyone is "so anxious about what Israel Folau said".

On Sunday Folau, Super Rugby's record try-scorer, told the Sydney Morning Herald he was ready for life without rugby, saying, "I live for God now".

"If that's not to continue on playing, so be it", he added. Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter Beattie said last week he had failed the sport's character test and would not get a contract.

"I really can't see him being allowed to play rugby league for what he said", Graham said.
