The mother of the victim told officers an unknown male approached her from behind, grabbed the child, and tried to flee.

On Monday, police identified the suspect as Roscoe Bradley Holyoake of East Victoria Park, Australia.

It was alleged that on Friday, Holyoake grabbed the child from his mother in broad daylight before running down the busy street.

Couple Adam and Sabrina Walker were in the vicinity with their own four-year-old son and said they watched as Holyoake released the boy after the struggle, smiled and then attempted to run away.

Walker, a dentist, said he and other bystanders had chased after Holyoake on foot.

Holyoake gave up after a short chase, the dentist said.

She said she struggled with him and freed the boy from his grasp.
