'No matter how powered up you get as Spider-Man, you can never go any faster than this, ' Cerny says, 'because that's simply how fast we can get the data off the hard drive.' On the next-gen console, the camera speeds uptown like it's mounted to a fighter jet. According to Cerny, PSVR owners need not worry about shelling out more money to experience the wonders of virtual reality on PlayStation 5.

Cost and storage capacity have always been major bottlenecks for pushing solid state drives into the gaming console market, and Cerny did not reveal plans for the new device's storage capacity or pricing.

Wired has published an article providing first details on the "as-yet-unnamed console that will replace PS4", which has been in development for four years. In conversation with Wired, PS4 systems architect Mark Cerny confirmed that the PS5 will have an AMD Ryzen CPU, Radeon Navi GPU, support for ray tracing, and a solid state drive (SSD) that he touted to be a "game changer".

Games will continue to launch for the PS4 and PS5 after the new console launches. Support for 8K televisions is also likely.

PlayStation fans gotten some exciting news this morning, as Sony revealed new details and hardware specs for the PS5.

Israeli team assesses what went wrong with lunar landing
Beresheet project engineers worked to understand what had gone wrong in the final, fatal seconds before the spacecraft crashed. The audience outside had been through a turbulent journey themselves as they watched the first part of the landing go to plan.

In the interview, Cerny confirmed the next-gen PlayStation is partially based on PS4 architecture, which means that it is backwards compatible.

Despite this, developers are already working on PS5 games, so a possible 2020 release could potentially be in the cards. Look at how much goodwill Microsoft accrued just by adding compatibility for Xbox 360 and original Xbox games to the One.

Beyond hardware, Cerny did not discuss services, features, or games for the device.

Cerny wouldn't say more about when the console will be revealed. Hopefully we'll be able to see the console in action there.

While more and more rumors and reports regarding Sony's next-gen console, which we assume will be called the PS5, has been making the rounds, we now have our first official PS5 info and it comes from Sony nonetheless! An ultra-high-speed SSD is the key to our next generation, and our vision is to make loading screens a thing of the past, enabling creators to build new and unique gameplay experiences. Whenever the PS5 is finally ready to hit store shelves, we can promise you one thing: we're going to be ready.
