  • Google quietly drops its most creative Pixel accessories

Several owners of the new Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL claim the smartphone has a bug which randomly causes it to shutdown throughout the day - evoking deja vu for some previous Pixel owners.

It wouldn't be a Pixel launch if users weren't already having problems, and unfortunately, it only took a couple of weeks for users to encounter their first issue with the Pixel 3a series. It doesn't appear to be limited to a single carrier.

Users realtimeanalytics, Ravoz, Nfuzzy, gold_bull, Deazyl, migeul35, Zephyrical16, and EnragedAardvark reported in to a pair of Reddit threads about the issue in the past 24 hours. It is happening with both models, the 3a as well as the XL. In this instance, the issue continued, which led the user to believe the problem is hardware related.

Commerce Department blocked Huawei from buying U.S. goods last week, throwing future software updates into question. The world's second-biggest phone maker runs its devices on Google's Android platform outside China, but the U.S.

Google is yet to publicly acknowledge the issue. Another user speculates that it has something to do with connecting to a Wi-Fi network, saying that the problem doesn't occur when their Wi-Fi is off. "It requires me to hold the power button down for 10 seconds to force shut down, and then power it back on like normal".

This is part of a growing use of AR in Google services, such as the Lens app on phones, and also now in Google search, with 3D images.

Another user has also pointed to a "factory reset" as an effective solution against the shutdowns. The interface prompts users to turn and shows accurate arrows by just pointing the phone at buildings. The Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL users have complained that they are facing sudden shutdowns of their smartphones. Google Maps AR was recently announced at I/O 2019 developers conference for Pixel phones including the original Pixel, Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 range. We understand that not all technologies may be ideal but Google should have known better.
