Jets' new GM Joe Douglas: Solid hire, but it guarantees nothing

The Philadelphia Eagles executive was hired Friday night to serve as New York's general manager, tasked with leading the Jets back to respectability. Naturally, they gave a glowing scouting report on Douglas.

Douglas has been with the Eagles since 2016 and was a big part of building up the roster that won the Super Bowl in 2018.

Douglas replaces Mike Maccagnan, who was surprisingly fired last month after four seasons when Jets chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson said he took a "deeper dive" this offseason to analyze the inner-workings of the football side of the organization.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets initially offered Douglas $1.5 million a year but ended up more than doubling that.

China to set up system to safeguard technology security
Beijing responded to Trump's latest tariff hike by increasing levies on $60 billion of United States products on June 1. The metals are used in everything from electric vehicle motors and electronics to oil refining and clean diesel.

Douglas, however, still faces plenty of challenges. Before arriving in Chicago, Douglas spent 16 years in the Baltimore Ravens' personnel department from 2000-15. Realizing he had no shot at the GM position - Eric DeCosta was tabbed as Ozzie Newsome's heir apparent - Douglas moved to the Bears and Eagles.

The Jets interviewed several candidates, before hiring Douglas.

"Joe is considering multiple options and I'm one of the options", McShay told ESPN's Rich Cimini.

McShay and Douglas go way back to their days as college teammates at the University of Richmond where McShay was the scout team quarterback and Douglas was an offensive tackle.
