One of Canada's largest producers of plastics says there will be plenty of room for future growth in output despite a proposal by Ottawa to ban certain single-use plastic products by 2021.

The official said specific items to be banned will be determined based on a science-based review, but they are considering items such as water bottles, plastic bags and straws.

Across Canada, a number of municipalities and some provinces have recently moved ahead with various single-use plastics bans, mainly targeting plastic bags. Trudeau stated that his government is now researching which items should be banned while confirming that Canada would follow the model laid out by the European Union. "And to be honest as a dad it is tough trying to explain to my kids", Trudeau said.

Canada plans to ban some single-use plastics like straws, bags and cutlery by early 2021 to reduce un-recyclable waste and protect the world's oceans, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday.

"People around the world are grappling with this every day", Mr Trudeau said.

The United States and Japan did not sign the charter.

The non-binding Ocean Plastics Charter called on participating countries and the European Union to commit to making all plastics reusable, recyclable or recovered by 2030.

I think we were the first floor to evacuate, actually, because we felt it so quickly", Farrell told ABC News. The incident happened at 787 Seventh Ave., known as the AXA Equitable Building, according to NYPD and FDNY.

The crackdown on plastics is part of a growing worldwide effort by governments in the European Union, India and California, driven by images of garbage-strewn oceans and dead sea animals with plastic bags in their digestive tracks.

In March this year, City of Hobart councillors voted in favour of a by-law to support the ban and impose fines on those that don't comply. "They also send a powerful signal that the world does not welcome more climate-damaging fracked gas to create plastic".

Other countries in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, have started returning previously accepted waste from other countries, The New York Times reported.

"Our fundamental belief is that globally, plastics will continue to grow and that we'll need multiple plants to be built year over year to enable that growth", he said in an interview.

Recycling, he said, would not only cut down on pollution but would help produce 42,000 jobs in the recycling and recovery businesses.

Mr Trudeau called the issue of plastic pollution a "global challenge".
