Ash Barty reached her first Grand Slam final after ending American 17-year-old Amanda Anisimova's run in a nerve-ridden semi-final at Roland Garros.
The eighth-seeded Barty, the first Australian woman to play a final here since Sam Stosur in 2010, will take on Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova on Saturday. Barty advanced with a solid 6-3, 7-5 win over Keys that included a mix of slice and topspin in her repertoire, while Anisimova finished off Halep, 6-2, 6-4, with a demonstrative backhand victor down the line a minute earlier to become the youngest Roland Garros semifinalist since Nicole Vaidisova in 2006 - and, just as incredible, she hasn't lost a set during her fortnight run.
Barty, who was the highest ranked woman in the last four, has only dropped one set all tournament and looked to be in cruise control, dropping just one point in the first four games and storming to a 5-0 lead. The Australian rallied to take the second set, and then once again came from a break down in the decider as she sealed a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 53 minutes.
"I'm just proud of myself the way I was able to fight and scrap and hang in there and find a way", she said, "when I kind of threw away that first set".
Not ready to quit, Anisimova broke to lead 2-1 and had just fended off three break points when, at deuce, her coach signaled from the stands that play should stop because the rain picked up.
Anisimova reached the fourth round of the Australian Open this year, but won her first career WTA title on clay in Bogota, beating Barty's Australian compatriot Astra Sharma in the process.
The set went on till the tie-breaker, where Amanda Anisimova earned a mini-break at 6-4, serving for the set with 2 set points in hand.
