  • Apple Disables Walkie-Talkie App On Apple Watch; Cites Eavesdropping Vulnerability

The Apple Watch Walkie-Talkie app has been disabled by its parent company, Apple itself.

"We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience and will restore the functionality as soon as possible". We concluded that disabling the app was the right course of action as this bug could allow someone to listen through another customer's iPhone without consent.

In a statement, Apple apologised for the bug, which is believed to have been flagged to the company through its own security issue reporting website.

You'll find the Walkie Talkie feature has been turned off on your Apple Watch, and that's because Apple has found a major vulnerability that could allow someone to listen in to someone else's iPhone without their consent.

There's no word on when the feature will be reactivated, and there's no clear indication as to whether the bug is client-side on the device or a server-side issue. There's now no clear timescale of when the problem will be fixed.

It was added a year ago with the release of watchOS 5, and is only supposed to allow willing participants to chat with each other. This flaw could allow someone to listen in on a user's iPhone call if allowed to be exploited.

Fossilised skulls provide earliest known evidence of Homo sapiens in Eurasia
The remains were dug up with a second skull estimated to be 170,000 years-old - with the same features as our primitive relatives. This supports the hypothesis that early modern humans spread out of Africa, where they evolved, multiple times, researchers say.

It looks like a serious security flaw has caused Apple to disable the walkie-talkie function on their Apple Watch.

The market-leading Apple Watch lineup owes its huge popularity to not only a groundbreaking slew of life-saving technologies, but also a very convenient batch of smooth wrist communication features.

Apple was criticized at the time for being too slow to respond to the bug.

Apple even took a dig at Google and Amazon with a giant data privacy billboard at January's CES 2019 tech convention.
