  • Agent - Chargers' Gordon wants trade if no deal

Some of the NFL's top running backs have been getting big paydays, and unless Melvin Gordon gets one, he's going to cause a huge headache for the Chargers.

Gordon's agent, Fletcher Smith, has informed Los Angeles that unless he receives a new contract, he will not report to training camp and will demand a trade, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Gordon, who was the No. 15 overall pick of the 2015 National Football League draft, is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which calls for him to earn $5.6 million this season.

Chargers training camp is slated to begin July 24.

Gordon previously expressed concern during a mandatory June minicamp that he hadn't yet gotten a new contract completed.

Allardyce reveals he turned down Newcastle job offer
The 58-year-old is keen on managing in the Premier League again and wants to hear what Newcastle have to offer to him. Benitez departed after his contract expired, saying the Premier League club " did not share his vision ".

Gordon enjoyed a breakout season previous year for the Chargers despite missing a quarter of a season with a knee sprain. "But that's not going to stop me from coming out here and doing what I need to do. We're talking right now, and that's kind of where I'm going to leave it".

He was also asked about possibly not playing in 2019 without a new deal. I'm just trying not to talk about it.

Gordon was selected as a Pro Bowler in two of his first four seasons including past year, when he missed four games to injury. Looking at conventional stats, Gordon had 885 rushing yards, averaged 5.1 yards per carry and had 10 rushing touchdowns.

Gordon ranks fourth in total rushing yards since 2016 and his 28 rushing touchdowns during that stretch is tied for second among all running backs.
