  • Tottenham Slap In Better Bid Than Arsenal For William Saliba, Spurs Trying To Hijack Deal

In a potential hammer blow for Unai Emery and co., it was first reported by Mohamed Bouhafsi of RMC Sport that Tottenham had outbid their north London rivals for Saliba.

Arsenal's correspondent for Goal, Charles Watts, added: "Reports from France that Spurs have come in and bid beyond what Saint-Etienne wanted for Saliba".

"Negotiations between Arsenal, Saint Etienne and Saliba were in their very final stages - much of it already in the hands of lawyers to agree wording of contracts etc - but Tottenham have reignited their interest and are now pushing hard to get the deal completed", Ornstein wrote.

But Spurs have been monitoring the situation and have now allegedly submitted an offer which is more than that from Arsenal.

With Spurs now seemingly edging ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Saliba, should the Gunners improve their offer?

Bitter North London rivals Arsenal have had an agreement in principle with Les Verts since Monday over a €30m including bonuses deal, but talks had yet to be totally concluded as the Gunners tried to haggle over staggered instalment payments and bonus structures.

Spurs, on the other hand, have reportedly offered to pay the majority of the transfer fee upright with the option to loan the defender back for a season.

The Gunners were set to secure a 30m euro (£27m) deal for the 18-year-old that was to see him loaned back to the Ligue 1 club next season.

Numerous sources across the European media have confirmed that Spurs have overtaken Arsenal in the race for Saint-Etienne's William Saliba.
